Raphael is above all the Angel of Healing as his name denotes, but also is the chief ruling Prince of the 2nd Heaven, Chief of the Order of Virtues, Guardian of the Tree of Life in Eden and one of the seven Holy Angels that attend the throne of God. He is one of the six Angels of Repentance, Angel of Prayer, Love, Joy and Light.

He is often identified as the Cherub who stands at the gate of Eden with a fiery sword. In Enoch I he is the Angel who watches over thunder and terror. Here he is shown holding his fiery sword of justice in one hand and the keys to the gates of Hades in the other hand.
