Kyanite gives me chills-the good kind. When I hold my special piece, energy, originating at the crown chakra, radiates through me. This is my favorite crystal for shifting my mood into a higher vibration.
I'm sometimes surprised that this is one of the lesser-known crystals (an unscientific statistic I base on over twenty years of selling crystals and teaching about them). If you're not familiar with it, you may have some wonderful surprises ahead. Kyanite is one of the most versatile and useful crystals for anyone's collection. This stone is beneficial for chakra balancing and is also one of the best crystals to enable meditation.
When I first discovered this crystal, I looked for information and found that it was mentioned in only one of the crystal books in my large collection: a geological guide to crystals, gems, and minerals. (Information about kyanite has since shown up in a few more books.)
The lack of information allowed me to explore kyanite without preconceived notions, and I enjoyed making discoveries about this remarkable stone.
Its name comes from the Greek word, kyanos, meaning blue. It predominantly occurs in a medium blue color with white streaks-although it can be green, black, yellow, and other colors. This crystal is often translucent and always shiny. (My remarks about this stone will be based on my use of blue kyanite.)
Its appearance is beautiful and unusual. The surface has ridges or striations, a characteristic that traditionally means it has the ability to conduct and amplify energy. (Other examples of striated crystals include tourmaline, topaz, kunzite, and beryl.)
I believe that the most important aspect of kyanite's appearance comes from its blade shape, made up of very thin mica-like layers. When used with focused intent, it can cut through psychic and mental barriers. I will describe this use further on in this article.
According to the chakra system of colors, kyanite should be placed either on the throat area or on the third eye (between and slightly above the other two), and I've found the third eye position especially valuable. However, I've used kyanite on all the chakras.
Kyanite and Anxiety
Overall, I find its energy to be very calming mentally. I've discovered that when I'm caught up in one of my worry loops, placing kyanite on my forehead (whether or not I'm meditating) helps me to move beyond the loop. It reminds me that everything that happens is for a purpose and that I am ultimately in charge. In the course of these gentle reminders, I often discover that thoughts I've accepted as fact are really beliefs-meaning unexamined ideas I've accepted as truth.
Here's one way to use kyanite for the purpose of anxiety relief:
Meditating with Kyanite
If you have difficulty in meditating because your mind is hyperactive or you're easily distracted, consider kyanite. It has an unequaled ability to calm and quiet a busy mind.
You can use this crystal in several ways for meditation purposes.
Kyanite is particularly recommended for meditation at the end of the workday, especially for those who have a hectic lifestyle.
Kyanite for Dreams and Inner Vision
Because of kyanite's association with the sixth chakra, or third eye, it is excellent for inner vision. Dreams represent a particular way to look within.
Kyanite isn't the best crystal for stimulating dream recall. I recommend Herkimer diamonds for that purpose. As the energy of this crystal may be intense, I also recommend amethyst to soften its energy and as a generally calming stone.
Kyanite helps us to find dreams' deeper meanings. Put it beneath your pillow for best results.
Because of its ability to open the third eye, many people find Kyanite valuable for communicating with angels and guides. This is best done in a meditative state. Practical and Historical Notes
It is generally believed that this stone doesn't ever need to be cleaned or cleared because it doesn't retain negative vibrations. This is probably why we can use it for so many different kinds of healing work. However, if you think your kyanite has picked up negative energies, I recommend clearing it with the smoke from a smudge stick. I would not recommend immersing it in water, as its structure is delicate.
For those who like to know where different crystals originate: some very high quality kyanite comes from Switzerland, one of the first places where this crystal was mined. It is also found in France, Italy, Kenya, India, the U.S., Brazil, and Myanmar.
