Last November's Rainbow Reflections consisted of a collection of quotations about peace. Many readers wrote us to express their appreciation of this newsletter format. In response, I've chosen to dedicate the February Rainbow Reflections to quotations about love.
As with the peace quotations, there's one quotation for each day of the month, not necessarily in any particular order. Enjoy them, and please feel free to share them.
The only transformer and alchemist that turns everything into gold is love. The only magic against death, aging, ordinary life, is love. -- Anais Nin
You cannot leave a situation until you have done so with love. Those situations you leave in anger will be there for you to resolve in the future. It may not be with the same person, but you will create another person and a similar situation to allow you to resolve it with love. -- Sanaya Roman (channeling Orin)
Because one does not see that love is an activity, a power of the soul, one believes that all that is necessary is to find the right object -- and that everything goes by itself afterward. This attitude can be compared to that of a man who wants to learn to paint but who, instead of learning the art, claims that he has just to wait for the right object, and that he will paint beautifully when he finds it. -- Erich Fromm The Art of Loving
Love is the free exercise of choice. Two people love each other only when they are quite capable of living without each other but choose to live with each other. -- M. Scott Peck
Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive. -- Dalai Lama
Neither a lofty degree of intelligence nor imagination nor both together go to the making of genius. Love, love, love -- that is the soul of genius. -- Mozart
I love you not only for what you are, but for what I am when I am with you. I love you not only for what you have made of yourself, but for what you are making of me. I love you for the part of me that you bring out. -- Elizabeth Barrett Browning
Under the sustaining influence of love, the physical body is always at its best. It is probably true that more people are sick from lack of love in their lives than from all other causes put together. -- Eric Butterworth
Tenderness and kindness are not signs of weakness and despair, but manifestations of strength and resolution. -- Kahlil Gibran
There is a single magic, a single power, a single salvation, and a single happiness, and that is called loving. -- Hermann Hesse
| All thoughts, all passions, all delights, Whatever stirs this mortal frame, All are but ministers of Love, And feed his sacred flame. -- Samuel Coleridge |
Keep love in your heart. A life without it is like a sunless garden when the flowers are dead. The consciousness of loving and being loved brings a warmth and richness to life that nothing else can bring. -- Oscar Wilde
| The truth is that there is only one Terminal dignity....Love And the story of a love is not important What is important is that One is capable of love It is perhaps the only glimpse We are permitted of eternity -- Helen Hayes |
Love is like quicksilver in the hand. Leave the fingers open and it stays in the palm; clutch it and it darts away. -- Dorothy Parker
Love is the miracle cure. Loving ourselves works miracles in our
lives. I am not talking about vanity or arrogance . . . for that is
not love. It is only fear. I am talking about having a great
respect for ourselves and a gratitude for the miracle of our body
and our mind.
-- Louise L. Hay
We can make ourselves say the kind things that rise in our hearts and tremble on our lips -- do the gentle and helpful deeds which we long to do and shrink back from; and little by little, it will grow easier -- the love spoken will bring back the answer of love -- the kind deed will bring back a kind deed in return. -- Harriet Beecher Stowe
